1886 map showing the railway line before its closure in the 1960s. The map is from the Court Guide & Royal Blue Book of Wales by Charles William Deacon and is improved from an Ordnance Survey map. The line ran behind the school and was a vital means of getting to the school by many of the girls. It was closed in 1963, which was a great loss to the local community. After that girls had to take a bus from either Ruabon or Machynlleth to reach school. The custom of throwing school hats into Bala Lake as the train sped by it came to an end.
