Domestic in 1891

Born in Brithdir and aged 20 at the time the 1891 Census was taken, Margaret (pictured here in the fur coat) was one of 8 servants resident at the school in 1891 and was one of two housemaids. Other domestic staff included a cook, waitress,kitchenmaid,laundress and two laundrymaids. The six teachers recorded on the Census were all born outside Wales. Most pupils were born in Wales. Pupils originally came also from Devon, Wiltshire, London, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire, India, Germany and Brazil. The Domestic staff at the time were all born in Wales. Margaret is pictured here at the wedding of John Hall and Meinir, both former pupils of DWS, in November 1948.

    Margaret Pugh was Meinir Williams' Grandmother, my Great-Grandmother.
