Honour before Honours Plaque

A photograph of a wooden plaque bearing the letters DWS intertwined and encircled by the motto "Honour Before Honours". This was the original school motto before "Ardua Semper".

'Honour Before Honours' is still the motto of the Brisbane High School for Girls, Australia. Miss Eliza Fewings, Headmistress of DWS 1886-1896, founded this school in 1899, after originally going to take up a position as headmistress at Brisbane Girls Grammar School.

NOTE- 'Honour Before Honours - The DWS Story' is also the title of the book by Merfyn Wyn Tomos of Meirionnydd Record Office. Published in 2009 and also funded by the Heritage Lottery. 'Honour Before Honours' has been an invaluable resource as we have developed this website.
